Heritage designs the future. N.1
If it is true that every story has a beginning, chair N.1 can be considered the chair from which the inspiration of all our heritage derives. The name itself has a meaning.
A creation by Michael Thonet dated 1850, historically considered the archetype chair from which innumerable models derived, including chair N.14 that we have already presented to you.
Flexible, light and elegant shapes define chair N.1, a refined expression – indeed, a real homage – of the steam-bent solid beech technique, which is enhanced here by a flowering of curves.
From a technical point of view, N.1 already outlines Michael Thonet’s design philosophy focused on simplifying the compositional elements in view of a mass production that combines solidity, beauty and adaptability.
Designed for the well-known Viennese baroque Schwarzenberg palace, the N.1 chair is characterized by the other archetype of our DNA, the woven cane, used for the seat.
N.1 is an integral part of the historical catalogue of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna.
