Caryllon tables and Postsparkasse stools by Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH for “Home for the Holidays”, an interior design project from LuisaViaRoma by Cristina Celestino for Christmas 2018.
The e-commerce collaboration between the two brands has also been launched.
The worlds related to design, such as art, have always been of profound interest for Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH, a key historic brand in the crucial passage from craftsmanship to industry that is now approaching the fashion system through a collaboration with LuisaViaRoma. The prestigious Florentine fashion store founded in 1930, with the forerunner of today’s Concept Store in Via Roma where the CARYLLON tables designed by Cristina Celestino – along with POSTSPARKASSE stool designed by Otto Wagner – form an integral part of her interior design project: “Home for the Holidays“.
For the company, the collaboration with LuisaViaRoma is a new witness to its vocation for studying research and design, and a meeting point between the past and future.
Combining innovation with a long tradition, for some years now, through the brand Wiener GTV Design, with a manufacturing heritage spanning three centuries, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna has chosen to renew its partnership with the world of design, along with prominent figures on the international scene.
The presence in Florence is also an opportunity to announce the commercial partnership: active since 1999 and nowadays one of the most influential luxury e-commerce portals, www.luisaviaroma.com will distribute a wide selection of the Gebrüder Thonet Vienna collection from November onwards.
In Florence, starting on November 5th, three Caryllon dining tables with a red wine structure and matching inlays will furnish the central aisle of the LuisaViaRoma Concept store which, with “Home for the Holidays”, will be turned into a home for celebrating the holidays with a project that pays homage to the elegant and refined designs and clothing excellences.
Cristina Celestino reinterprets the most intimate spaces of the house, and gives life to a home-like atmosphere, rich in symbolic and cultural references, with a Christmas atmosphere. A rigorous architect, but a designer with a strong creative verve at the same time, this new talent on the italian scene offers a discreet and elegant design, and stands out for a style characterised by a synthesis of the past and the present. Observation and research, exploration of new concepts and creative solutions are the cornerstones of her style, and also form the foundation for the retro styled Caryllon tables collection.
Along with the tables, there are also six Postsparkasse stools in solid black lacquered beechwood with aluminium finishes. An original 1906 design by Otto Wagner, still in the catalogue, the “Postsparkasse” series, which also includes a an armchair, was designed for the main office buildings of the Vienna Postal Savings Bank in 1906. A clear expression of Viennese modern art, it was the first product to use solid beechwood, worked with a square cross section rather than a rounded one.
“Home for the Holidays” also marks the start of an online sales collaboration between Gebrüder Thonet Vienna and www.luisaViaRoma.com , which will distribute a selection from the GTV catalogue.
In addition to Caryllon dining and low tables, some of bestsellers in the contemporary collection such as the lounge chairs Hideout by Front and Lehnstuhl by Nigel Coates and the chairs PostMundus by Martino Gamper and Radetzky by Michele De Lucchi. The selection also includes the Allegory Desk by GamFratesi the Postsparkasse special edition created to celebrate 100 years from Otto Wagner’ s passing, which is characterised by copper details and by the upholstery from the Maharam collection defined by a peculiar decoration by Josef Hoffman, Otto Wagner’ s scholar, among the Viennese Secession founders.
