New validation for Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH, as their ability to combine tradition and innovation and commitment to continuous research into new forms, high design, simplicity and versatility of use is honoured with new international recognition.
The Allegory desk and the Morris chair, both by the GamFratesi design duo, received a special mention at the German Design Awards 2017, an award launched in 2012 and sponsored by the German Design Council, with the goal of discovering and exhibiting the most innovative design projects. These two products represent and express the ability of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna to reinvent their style through ongoing research, combining tradition and innovation.
The elegance and simplicity of the ALLEGORY desk make it an ideal base for home offices and for more intimate contract solutions. The large disk in solid steam bent beech houses a Vienna straw screen, bringing in the iconic elements of the brand, joining the flat surface with the curved part of the base. The coarse weave also suggests a versatile use of this element, aesthetic becoming functional, allowing you to attach additional accessories and reminders to the upright structure.
The MORRIS chair, however, reinterprets the classic Viennese seat using new proportions, widening the perspective, a new look at iconic designs. The structure consists of solid steam bent beech elements, and includes a padded seat on which a cane backrest stands, available in two heights. The juxtaposition of the two versions is a fun way to liven up the dining room horizon, playing with heights and colours, offering irreverent design solutions in domestic and contract settings.
A new prestigious award, following the success of Targa by GamFratesi at the Elle Deco International Design Awards 2016, the Hideout lounge chair by Front winning the iF Gold Award in 2016, and finally the prestigious Compasso d’Oro for lifetime achievement awarded to Chairman of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, Franco Moschini.
