For Chiara Andreatti, Ellipse is the result of nurturing ideas with the same patience as a garden, cultivating shapes that grow into something timeless.

A modular sofa system that embodies balance, lightness, and the heritage of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, reinterpreted in a contemporary way.

What did you dream of becoming as a child?

As a child, I dreamed of becoming a gardener. I was fascinated by the idea of taking care of something alive and being surrounded by nature, watching it grow over time with patience and dedication. In a way, that desire has remained: even in design, you nurture ideas and shape forms.

What inspired your design for GTV?

The inspiration for Ellipse stems from the desire to create an elegant, fluid modular system that goes beyond traditional models. Soft shapes, continuous lines, and asymmetry introduce movement and compositional freedom, while bentwood and woven details recall the heritage of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna in a contemporary way. A project that blends craftsmanship and vision, balance and lightness.

What makes this piece unique?

Ellipse is unique because it combines the artisanal excellence of bentwood with high modular performance. A rare balance between traditional savoir-faire and contemporary versatility.

The GTV piece you’d never give up?

The Stocksessel stool represents a perfect synthesis of classicism, elegance, and functionality in an object designed for “momentary” seating.
Its visual and material lightness, combined with an essential yet distinctive form, makes it one of the finest examples in the collection.
Stocksessel is not merely a piece of furniture, but a historical and cultural symbol.
