Nigel Coates presents the BISTROTSTUHL lunch armchair, another exclusive contemporary interpretation of the traditional Thonet collection, which replicates the sinuous shapes of the LEHNSTUHL lounge chair and the BODYSTUHL chair. This is an extremely comfortable and ergonomic chair which stands out for its sculpted anthropomorphic backrest that evokes the triangular shape of human shoulder blades.

Nigel Coates

Nigel Coates is a British architect and designer. His mission is to unite art and intelligence in architecture and design. No matter what space or which object, Coates will interpret it with passion, humour and instinct. After graduating at the Architectural Association, Coates soon became an original force in architecture. His narrative philosophy has been translated into buildings, interiors and exhibitions around the world particularly in the UK and Japan. His experimental works have been exhibited in both artistic and design contexts such as the exhibitions ArkAlbion in 1984 and Ecstacity in 1992 at the Architectural Association, Mixtacity in 2007 at Tate Modern, and Hypnerotosphere in 2008 at the Biennale of Architecture in Venice. Coates’ output is internationally recognized with significant examples of his work in the collections of several museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and FRAC in Orleans. Recently Coates has focused on furniture and lighting design; he collaborates with many Italian companies including Alessi, Fratelli Boffi, Poltronova and Slamp.
