Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH reaffirms its design vocation together with IN Residence
At Vienna Design Week 2018, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH will be sponsoring five scholarships the non-profit Cultural Association IN Residence. The historic brand, which has been a protagonist in the crucial transition from craftsmanship to industry, has become an active sponsor of this contemporary culture project. By encouraging research, and by rewarding the quality and talent of the younger generation, it has reconfirmed its vocation for design research, a trait that links its prestigious past to the future perfectly. Gebrüder Thonet Vienna was in fact, first in the history of design to forge close collaborations with designers and architects. Symbolic collaborations began with architectural masters Otto Wagner, Josef Hoffman Adolf Loos as early as the end of the 1800s.
The decision to support IN Residence came naturally for Gebrüder Thonet Vienna: what these organisations share is an identical cultural vision of knowledge production, intellectual exchanges and experience in promoting a transversal dialogue between individuals as their unshakeable priority.
Both are also inclined towards experimentation: fortified by a unique heritage in the sector spanning three centuries, with the aim of continued innovations on the road traced by traditions over the years, along with Wiener brand GTV Design, Gebrüder Thonet Vienna has embarked on a new stage in its history, renewing its partnerships with the world of design along with emerging designers and leading names from the international scene, including Chiara Andreatti, Cristina Celestino, Michele De Lucchi, Front, GamFratesi, Martino Gamper and Nendo, to name just a few.
Thanks to the deep commitment of curators Barbara Brondi & Marco Rainò, IN Residence has been promoting for over a decade a structured project, dealing with design culture, interpreted as a process that organises useful creative resources to generate innovative ideas, and expressing solutions that can spread benefits and transmit emotions.
As its first international meeting of the new cycle of events, following the celebrations for its 10th anniversary, IN Residence will present, in Vienna, where Gebrüder Thonet Vienna has its roots, Workshop # 11: “INTRA-TEMPORALITY”, with as Tutors Julien Carretero, along with the duo formed by Giorgia Zanellato and Daniele Bortotto. During four days of intensive, continuous interaction with the tutors and the programme curators, the participants will be invited to explore the fascinating theme of intra-temporality, its impact on contemporary society and how design thinking might contribute towards a better use of time, which has become increasingly fast-paced.
